Camping Next to the Garrett County Fairgrounds at Double G
The fairgrounds are next door, the holiday minimum is three nights, and the best advice is to call early.

Some campgrounds are near an event. Double G RV Park is next to one. The Garrett County Fairgrounds sit beside the park in McHenry, Maryland, and the park lists them first among the places within walking distance. For campers who come for the Garrett County Fair or the Autumn Glory Festival, that means you can park the rig once and leave the truck where it is.
How the park treats event weekends
Double G counts five dates as holidays: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Garrett County Fair Week, Labor Day and Garrett County's Autumn Glory Festival. On holidays and holiday weekends, there's a 3-night minimum and a 3-night deposit, where a regular weekend has a 2-night minimum and a 2-night deposit. The park can't hold a reservation without that deposit.
The park doesn't publish the fair or festival dates, so this post doesn't either. Event dates can shift from one year to the next, so ask the office what falls when. The park's season runs May 1st through October 31st, and its own holiday list puts both events inside it. The base rate is $65.00 to $75.00 a night for two adults and two children age 15 and under, with $5.00 extra per adult and $2.00 extra per child each night. Prices are subject to change without notice.
Book early, and here's why
Jeremy R, a repeat visitor who wrote a five-star Google review, said he'd camped a weekend at Double G three years running and was already booked for the next year. His next line: "It fills up fast!" He also noted the park is mainly seasonal sites and park models, with a limited number of short-term spots for weekend campers. Weekend spots are a small part of the park, and event weekends are the ones people circle on the calendar first.
Michael Miller, who stayed in August 2026, wrote that the County Fair was next door and that Deep Creek Lake and Wisp attractions are close by. He also said the office moved his long rig to a better site when his first one didn't level. If you're arriving during a busy week, that kind of help matters most. Give the office your length and your amp needs when you call so they can put you in the right spot the first time.
Know the cancellation terms before you pay
Event weekends are exactly when plans fall apart, so read this part twice. Cancellations must be made at least 7 days before the arrival date. There are no refunds inside 7 days. A $5.00 minimum or 5% maximum fee applies to every cancellation. And there are no refunds due to inclement weather or a change of plans. With a 3-night deposit on the line, you want to be sure of your dates before you book.
Planning the stay
- Arrive in daylight. Event weekends can bring extra people to the area, and backing into a site is easier when you can see.
- Walk to the fairgrounds. The park lists the Garrett County Fairgrounds as within walking distance, so leave the truck parked at the site.
- Stock the cooler and the pantry before the weekend. Camp store hours change with the season, so call (301) 387-5481 to ask what's open.
- Bring chairs, a headlamp and a rain jacket. The park doesn't give refunds for rain, and a wet afternoon is still a good time to be at the fair.
- Pack for a late night. A site with a fire ring and a picnic table is the place to wind down.
The park's Area Attractions page describes the fairgrounds as home to the Garrett County Agricultural Fair, festivals and shows, so the grounds host more than the one week. That's a good reason to ask the office what's coming up on the weekends you're considering.
What to expect back at the site
Double G is a family-owned park on a farm, and the pace stays gentle even when the neighbors are busy. Jason M. Bull, in a four-star review, wrote, "The place is QUIET," and mentioned the 7 1/2 MPH speed limit sign. Richard Lechner, who also gave four stars, called the campground well maintained and clean. Pitching in on the quiet is on you, too. Keep the music down after dark, remember that fireworks aren't permitted anywhere on the property, and keep a leash on the dog if you've brought one.
Also remember the house rules. It's family camping only, no one under 21 without a parent or guardian, no tents, no weapons, and street-legal vehicles only. A golf cart doesn't count, however short the trip to the fairgrounds looks.
Your next step
Call (301) 387-5481 and ask for the dates of the next fair or festival weekend, whether a site is open, and which one fits your rig. If you already know your dates, book through this site and remember the 3-night minimum. The office is the better source for anything that changes year to year.
