Sunflower field in full bloom at dusk on the Glotfelty farm

On the Glotfelty farm, McHenry, Maryland

Double G Sunflowers

The same fields Warren and Gesse Glotfelty farm for hay, oats and corn also grow sunflowers. In a bloom year they typically open at the end of July into early August and stay in full color for a few weeks.

Bloom time varies, and not every year has a field. Call the camp store before you drive out to ask about this year’s sunflowers.

How to visit the field

Posted the way the family would post it at the gate.

View from the field edge
The sunflowers are free to view. Look and take photos from the edge of the field. Entering the field is not permitted, and the family asks that you do not take the flowers.
Stems at the camp store
In a bloom year, sunflowers are sold at the Double G camp store. Double G staff cut every stem, and visitors do not have permission to cut their own.
Photographers
Anyone using the field for a photo session of any kind pays a fee and signs in at the Double G RV Park office first.
Merch at the store
Double G Sunflower T-shirts and sweatshirts come in adult sizes small through 3XL, and kids sizes are available. The camp store also carries Double G Sunflower mugs and birdseed.
Sharing your pictures
Use the hashtag #doublegsunflowers when you post your images on social media.

Ask first, then come out

Camp store hours change with the season, so call (301) 387-5481 and the staff can tell you about the field. The farm has also hosted a farm-to-table dinner at Double G Sunflowers.
