Some campers book a weekend and head home. Others get the same site every May and treat it like a second address. Double G RV Park, on the Glotfelty farm half a mile from the north end of Deep Creek Lake, is mainly a seasonal park, and that's worth understanding before you decide which kind of camper you are.
What the seasonal site includes
Seasonal camping gives you unlimited use of your site from May 1st through October 31st. It's a full hook-up campsite, and water, sewer, cable and WiFi are included. The WiFi is a shared connection with speeds that vary, and streaming isn't permitted. Electric is metered and billed separately, with 30 or 50 amp service available, so your power bill follows your own habits.
The package covers more than hook-ups. Lawn maintenance is included, so you won't be the one pushing a mower around a rented patch of grass. Each site has a picnic table and a fire ring. Immediate family can use the site for free. Winter storage for your RV on site is included, and indoor winter storage is also available at the park's standard storage prices.
Then there's the boat. A seasonal site comes with one outdoor summer storage space for a boat or boat trailer, running May 1st through October 31st, one per site, in the D&W Storage yard on the same grounds. For a family that came to Deep Creek Lake for the water, that's a real piece of the deal.
What the park asks of you
The rules are short. A new seasonal RV can be no more than 10 years old. Every park model has to be purchased through Double G. The park is family camping only, with no tents, no fireworks and no weapons, and vehicles must be street legal, which rules out golf carts, ATVs and UTVs. If you're thinking of buying a park model, the park lists new Summit and Quail Ridge models by Forest River and Fairmont Park Trailers, plus used campers and hard awnings and three-season rooms from Silver Top and Dura-Bilt.
Seasonal rates aren't published, so the honest answer on cost is to call. Ask what the seasonal fee is, what the metered electric has averaged for a rig like yours, and whether a site of the length you need is open. A useful exercise is to price out how many nights you realistically camp in a summer. Nightly rates run $65.00 to $75.00 and weekends require two nights, so a family that camps most weekends already knows the shape of that number. Set it against whatever the office quotes you and decide with real figures in front of you.
Who a seasonal site suits
- Families who camp most weekends and are tired of rebooking and repacking each time.
- Boat owners who want the trailer stored on the same grounds as the camper instead of at home.
- Grandparents who want a place where the grandchildren can come and go with immediate family.
- Campers who like to set up an awning or a three-season room and leave it for the summer.
It suits you less if you travel a different campground every week, tow an older rig that won't meet the 10-year rule, or camp in a tent. The park hasn't taken tents since the 1990s.
What seasonal campers say
On its own camping page, the park shares a note from Jerry and Judy: "We have had a park model at Double G for over 25 years and it truly is our 'happy place'! Everyone there is like family and the fact that it's family-owned makes a big difference." That's the park's own testimonial, not a rated review, so weigh it as such.
Google reviewers, who do leave star ratings, say similar things in plainer language. Richard Lechner, who gave four stars, wrote, "The seasonal sites are all well kept and add to a comfortable and peaceful feel." Jason M. Bull, also four stars, noted, "The place is QUIET," and added, "Biggest thing is the bath house was CLEAN and heated!" He also wrote that he loved the 7 1/2 MPH speed limit sign. That sign is a fair summary of the place. It's a working family farm, and the pace is slow.
Questions to ask before you commit
Ask about the site itself: its length, its electric service and how level the pad sits. Ask whether the boat space is open, and what indoor winter storage would cost if you want your rig under a roof. The park also offers a discounted summer storage rate to year-round storage customers, which is worth raising if you plan to store a boat over the cold months. Winter storage is indoor only and isn't climate controlled.
The park's camp store keeps ice, firewood, RV supplies and snacks, and the bathhouse, laundry, playground and pavilion are shared by everyone. The Garrett County Fairgrounds, Garrett College, the CARC with its indoor pool and gym, and Moon Shadow restaurant are all listed by the park as within walking distance.
Your next step
If a seasonal site sounds right, call (301) 387-5481 and ask what's open for next May. If you'd like to try the park first, book a weekend through this site and see how the place feels before you commit to a whole summer.
