Planning a First Weekend at Double G RV Park

A good first weekend at a new campground starts a few days before you hitch up. At Double G RV Park, which sits on the Glotfelty family farm at 76 Double G Drive in McHenry, Maryland, half a mile from the north end of Deep Creek Lake, most of the planning comes down to dates, hook-ups and a few house rules. None of it is complicated. It just helps to know it before you pull in with a rig behind you.

Pick your dates around the night minimums

The park is open for RV camping from May 1st through October 31st and closed from November 1st through April 30th. Inside that season, stay length is simple. Weekends carry a 2-night minimum, and a 2-night deposit holds your reservation. Holidays and holiday weekends carry a 3-night minimum and a 3-night deposit.

The park counts five dates as holidays: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Garrett County Fair Week, Labor Day and Garrett County's Autumn Glory Festival. If your weekend lands on one of those, plan on three nights. The base rate runs $65.00 to $75.00 a night and covers two adults and two children age 15 and under. Extra adults are $5.00 per person per night, and extra children are $2.00 per person per night. All prices and amenities are subject to change without notice, so confirm the number when you book.

The park is mainly seasonal sites and park models, with a small group of spots set aside for short-term weekend campers. A Google reviewer, Jeremy R, who has camped weekends there, wrote that he was already booked for the next year and added, "It fills up fast!" Take that seriously and look at dates early, especially for summer weekends.

What a full hook-up site gives you

Every overnight site is a full hook-up: water, electric, sewer, cable and basic WiFi. Each one has a gravel RV pad, a fire ring and a picnic table, and 30 or 50 amp electric is available. Michael Miller, who left a five-star review in August 2026, wrote, "A lot of spots with full hookups including 50 amp." Tell the office what your rig runs on when you book, and they can steer you to the right site.

One caution before you settle in with a laptop. The WiFi is a shared connection, speeds vary, and streaming isn't permitted. Download the movies and the maps before you leave home, and treat the WiFi as something for email and a quick look at the forecast.

Have a leveling plan before you arrive

Length matters on a gravel pad. Michael Miller wrote, "We had leveling issues with a site due to our length and they moved us with no issues," and he credited the ladies running the office for being accommodating. The lesson is to give the park your rig's real length and slide configuration when you reserve, and to mention it again at check-in if the site looks tight or sloped.

Bring your own leveling blocks anyway. Level the camper side to side first, then front to back, and put the stabilizers down last, since they're meant to steady a rig and not to lift it. Check the fridge, too. If you run it on propane, a rig that's out of level can matter for more than the ride of your coffee cup.

A packing list for a full hook-up weekend

  • A surge protector and a 30 to 50 amp adapter, so you can plug in whatever the pedestal offers. Turn the breaker off before you connect and on after.
  • Your fresh water hose, a pressure regulator and a spare hose washer. A dropped washer is a very small thing that can ruin a morning.
  • Sewer hose with a clear elbow, gloves and a rinse hose that is never used for drinking water.
  • Wheel chocks, leveling blocks and a flashlight for hitching in the dark.
  • Firewood and ice, though you can also pick up both at the camp store.
  • Offline entertainment, since the WiFi won't carry a stream.

The camp store and the house rules

The camp store sells ice, firewood, RV supplies, snacks and refreshments, and it's the same number as the main line, (301) 387-5481. Store hours change with the season and the park doesn't publish clock times, so call before you count on it. The park also has a bathhouse, a laundry facility, a playground, a pavilion and a dump station. LP gas is available, metered and bottled.

A few rules are worth reading before you leave home. It's family camping only, and no one under 21 can camp without a parent or guardian. There are no tents, no fireworks and no guns or weapons on the property. Every vehicle must be street legal, which means no golf carts, ATVs or UTVs. Cancellations must be made at least 7 days before arrival, a $5.00 minimum or 5% maximum fee applies to all of them, and there are no refunds for weather or a change of plans. As the park puts it, "We don't charge extra for sunshine, we don't give refunds for rain."

Your next step

Pick a weekend, check whether it's a holiday weekend, and call (301) 387-5481 with your rig length and amp needs. Or book a camping reservation through this site and let the office know about any special needs afterward.
